THE CAT

Repeat WAIT until this message appears:
The cat wanders in, sits down and drops a mouse at
Balrog's feet. Balrog bends over and picks up the mouse.
If this has just appeared after SOUTH, skip the WAIT.
Then immediately enter:
STROKE CAT, INVENTORY, GIVE MOUSE TO ELF
Do not stroke the cat just because you can see it. It must
have brought the mouse first. Stroking it stops it coming
back. Doing that too soon can leave you without the mouse.
The cat wanders randomly. No fixed WAIT count is reliable.
The 20 tested fresh games needed between 1 and 13 waits.
STROKE CAT awards a point and sends it away. Score: 4.
INVENTORY shows the mouse and your pants still being worn.
The elf takes the mouse and releases the ball. Score: 5.

OPEN BUCKET is deliberately entered twice. The first time
releases Albie and the bucket closes again. The second
reveals the note.
EXAMINE NOTE and READ NOTE introduce the paper-folding
clue. FOLD NOTE shows that Balrog's fingers cannot manage
it. EXAMINE BOAT reveals the origami boat, and READ WRITING
gives the pond rule. The newspaper supplies larger sheets.
After FOLD NEWSPAPER your score must be exactly 10.
The last command gives the winning sailing ending:

WARNINGS
Do not sail the barge before reaching exactly 10 points.
Otherwise it sinks.
Avoid the mud. The key and kitchen door are not needed.
The screwdriver is not needed either. Both PCW routes
reached the ending with 10/10 without taking or using it.
VERIFICATION
Completed on the PCW in MAME with 10/10 in 33 turns,
including three waits for the mouse-delivery message.
The original disk was not modified.
