VIRGIL WEST or VIRGIL NORTH. Keep checking that he is with you as without him you cannot finish the game. Walk Through (Start at the foot of a tall, imposing portal), E (sandy plains), TAKE BOTTLE, EXAMINE BOTTLE (contains a piece of paper), READ PAPER (it is in a foreign language), DROP BOTTLE (as you are now carrying the piece of paper), N (by river), TAKE STAFF, EXAMINE RIVER (shallow), CROSS RIVER (to first circle of hell, Limbo), S (to empty plain where you meet Virgil), N (Virgil should follow you), EXAMINE CASTLE (a door leads in and you hear strange animal noises from inside), OPEN DOOR (note you may have to go back south for Virgil as he tends to wander off, but make sure he is with you before entering the door), IN (to long hall), WAIT (until Virgil enters), GIVE PAPER TO VIRGIL. S (to castle of judgement), WAIT (until Virgil tells Minos to let you pass... you go down to a deserted plain and Virgil tells you this is a dangerous place), CRAWL SOUTH (to plain in the second circle), E, N, E (to third circle), E (to plain where you meet Cerebus the three headed dog who guards the path to the next level), S (to rocky hillside), TAKE TORCH, N, DIG (you uncover a small stone), TAKE STONE, THROW STONE AT CEREBUS (he howls with pain and limps aside... you go down to the next level to the fourth circle on a sandy path). U (a boulder blocks the way down), LEVER BOULDER WITH STAFF, D (to end of path), N (to bog in fifth circle), TAKE SHIELD, EXAMINE SHIELD, S, W (through bog), W, N (to banks of Styx), WAIT (until Virgil enters), CROSS STYX IN BOAT (to west bank), S (you are outside the city of Dis), TAKE AXE (the Harpies appear and see their reflection in your shield... they are turned to stone), N, CROSS STYX IN BOAT, IN (to tall tower), BREAK CHEST WITH AXE (inside you see a red key and a stout rope), DROP AXE, TAKE ROPE, TAKE KEY, OUT, WAIT (for Virgil), CROSS STYX IN BOAT, S. W (to foot of wall), W (outside wall), UNLOCK DOOR, OPEN DOOR (using the red key), WAIT (until Virgil is with you - note you may have to go looking for him), DROP KEY, VIRGIL DROP BOOTS, IN (to Dis at the edge of outer hell), E (amongst tombs), N, N (into walled city of Dis), D (to foot of steep track), S (into a quiet green valley), WAIT (for Virgil), DROP SHIELD, TAKE SHEET, E, N, E (into woods of despair), E, S, E, N (to fiery desert), N (into desert of the seventh circle), N, W, W (to cliff face), THROW STAFF OVER CLIFF (you hear the beating of wings and Geryon enters), WAIT (for Virgil), CLIMB ON GERYON, GERYON DOWN (to base of cliff). W (to rocky plain), N, W, W (to trench of thieves where a lizard bites you, you turn into a lizard and the lizard turns into a man), BITE MAN (the situation is reversed), TAKE TALISMAN, W (to bottom of abyss - ignore the giant), W (to plain of ice in the ninth circle), S, E, S, W (to very centre of inner hell where you meet Titan), WAIT (for Virgil), VIRGIL READ PAPER (he tells you it's an official form written in blood), WAIT, GIVE TALISMAN TO VIRGIL, WAIT (until Virgil holds up the talisman and asks to pass), U (you have reached the exit out of hell).
