**** PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT, SORT OF ****
If you are interested in solving an old text adventure you are stuck
on(i.e. VERY old systems) check gamefaqs.com and Jacob Gunness's site
first(these sites between them have everything,) search "[game name]"
walkthrough on Google(put + by common words.)
If you want to write a more in-depth walkthrough(i.e. items, possible
words, etc.) drop me a line and I'll see if I can help.
Oh yeah--if you want to skip to the walkthrough just search for the
decimal number 5.1 until you get to the file's end.

  1. INTRODUCTION
BTW I often will use BotR to refer to the book and 'the game' to refer
to the actual game. Except when I get confused. Of course this may all
be a secret ploy to get mail from people('what is what anyway?') so I
actually know my FAQ is getting read.
  2. THE PLOT AND MY IMPRESSIONS/COMPARISONS TO THE BOOK
Bored of the Rings is not a terribly difficult game except for
figuring out which commands to use when. So I will have a segment where
I give you that, and I also have a map included. Below all that is the
walkthrough.
  (Comparisons later when I re-read)
  3. VOCABULARY
The computer simply looks at the first four words you type in.

  5. WALKTHROUGH
One nuisance about the game if you are trying to get through it is
that there are random encounters. So if you just bull ahead and type
everything you may miss a move, which is especially painful in the maze.
You start off in the tent.
    5.1. PART 1
OUT. OUT. [1st two moves don't really matter] W. W. W. WAIT. [get ring,
get 10 points] E. E. S. IN. OUT. [if you don't Tim doesn't seem to greet
you later] S. HIDE. [10 points] N. N. N. E. E. E. E. S. DESCEND TUNNEL.
E. E. E. S. [here you just go in the same direction a few times in a
row, trying different ones, until you get sucked up by the tree. West
then north often works well.] CALL FOR HELP. [10 points] E. E. IN. OUT.
[should have the beans now] S. S. S. [more random movement here, same
direction a few times in a row, wind up at Great East Road. W. W. N.
seems to work.] E. IN. IN. WAIT. [until you get Aragont] OUT. OUT. E. E.
E. E. N. U. GET PEPPER. D. S. E. E. E. E. E. IN. WAIT. [until you get
Legoland, Borrower, Grandalf and Giblet] E. S. E. E. N. E. DROP PEPPER
    5.2. PART 2
Watch here for random encounters if you are just typing from the script.
It can throw you off especially in the maze.
E. E. GET BATTERY. W. INSERT BATTERY. [10 points] GET COIN. S. GIVE
COIN. [5 points] GET MAP. READ MAP. MOVE MAT. [5 points--you can take
the mat but then can't drop it and you still have to move it] GET KEY.
OPEN DOOR. W. GET RIFLE. E. E. E. N. E. E. S. W. S. E. TAKE POSTER. W.
W. S. [Note: if you get lost in the maze, start at the third E once
you're back in it.] W. DROP POSTER. [5 points] N. W. PUSH RED BUTTON.
[15 points] S. S. W. TAKE ROPE. E. E. PLANT BEANS. [10 points] E. S. S.
E. INFLATE RAFT. WAIT until you get to the campsite. SHOOT NAZAL. [10
points] INFLATE RAFT. WAIT until you get to the western shore. GET COIN.
W. U. U. INSERT COIN. [5 points] D. D. E. [the raft is on the shore now
though it wasn't before] INFLATE RAFT
    5.3. PART 3
E. GET BRICK. S. E. SAY HOG. [10 points] GET ROPE. TIE ROPE. [5 points]
CLIMB DOWN. PULL ROPE. GET ROPE. GIVE BRICK. [10 points, save or save-
state here as basilisk can randomly kill you. If you use save-state then
get killed, be sure to throw in a wait move before trying again] N. N.
SE. SE. N. N. E. S. E. E. S. E. E. N. W. N. E. E. GET SHADES. WEAR
SHADES. W. W. S. E. S. W. W. [10 points for freezing basilisk] E. E. N.
W. N. E. E. S. S. W. N. GET SALT. S. E. N. E. E. E. DROP SALT. [25
points] S. E. N. N. E. E. U. U. E. E. THROW ROPE. [10 points] SWING. S.
E. S. W. SHOOT TICKET. [5 points] GET TICKET. E. RIDE TRAIN. OUT. RIDE
TRAIN. OUT. N. E. E. E. U. SHOOT PIG. [15 points] D. W. D. E. E. N. GET
KEY. S. W. W. U. W. W. W. N. SWING. W. W. S. PUSH BUTTON. GO LIFT. PUSH
RED. OUT. OPEN DOOR. N. GET DEBUGGER. S. GO LIFT. PUSH MAGENTA. OUT. N.
W. W. S. S. W. W. W. W. IN. OUT. ATTACK KREMLINS. [10 points] IN. GET
SCISSORS. OUT. N. W. S. CUT STRING. [10 points] PUT RING IN MICROWAVE
  6. HOW POINTS ARE SCORED
    6.1. PART 1

10 points for getting the ring
10 points for hiding in the woods
10 points for calling for help inside the willow
10 points for visiting Tim's shack
10 points for entering Smelrond's with your entire party
10 points for entering again(?)
10 points for dropping the pepper
    6.2. PART 2
65 points total here.
10 points for inserting the coin in the vending machine
5 points for giving the coin to the pixie
5 points for getting the rifle
5 points for dropping the poster
10 points for pushing the red button
10 points for planting the beans
15 points for shooting the Nazal with the rifle
5 points for putting the coin in the telescope
    6.3. PART 3
115 total points here.
10 points for 'say hog'
5 points for tying the rope
10 points for giving the brick to Goldbum
10 points for killing the basilisk
25 points for killing the slug
10 points for throwing the rope across the chasm
5 points for shooting the ticket collector
15 points for shooting the pig
5 points for unlocking the door in firebrick(blue button)
10 points for attacking the Kremlins successfully
10 points for cutting the string
The total is 250 points, which seems right, but maybe there's something
else the game can turn up. Still don't know how to get my fortune told.
  7. WAYS TO DIE
They're usually pretty funny although often you can die by going the
wrong way.
Feel free to donate any. I'll give you credit.
--Don't hide in the forest
--Wait around inside the willow tree
--Wait around too long and the nazal catch you
--Eat the salt
--Eat the beans
End of FAQ proper.
