Introduction =============================================================================== After Shock is an interactive fiction adventure that was made by Interceptor Micros Software in 1986. The game takes place in a city which has recently been hit by a powerful earthquake. The cooling system at the power plant is rapidly losing pressure and in a few hours the reactor will explode. The aim is to make the journey from the office to the power plant on the other side of the city. With flooded underground stations, looters roaming the city and armed guards patrolling the streets, making the journey there will not be an easy task. =============================================================================== 2. Walkthrough =============================================================================== The game starts in the office. TAKE CHAIR. Move EAST twice to the lift. EXAMINE LIFT to see a panel in the ceiling. DROP CHAIR. CLIMB ON CHAIR. REMOVE PANEL. CLIMB OUT OF LIFT. Move DOWN, SOUTH and WEST to the utility room. EXAMINE WORKBENCH to find a torch. TAKE TORCH. SWITCH OFF ISOLATOR. Move EAST three times, UP, EAST, NORTH, EAST twice and SOUTH to Parkview Road. TAKE TELEVISION. Move EAST, NORTH, EAST and SOUTH to the park area. EXAMINE BIN to find a bottle. TAKE BOTTLE. Move NORTH, WEST, SOUTH, WEST and NORTH to Darwin Street. FILL BOTTLE WITH OIL. Move SOUTH, WEST, SOUTH three times and DOWN to the storm drain. SWITCH ON TORCH. Move EAST four times. TAKE HANDLE. Move SOUTH twice, WEST and SOUTH to the sluicegate. EXAMINE SLUICEGATE to see a mechanism. FIT HANDLE ON SLUICEGATE. LUBRICATE MECHANISM. DROP BOTTLE. OPEN SLUICEGATE. Move SOUTH, WEST, NORTH, WEST and NORTH to the storm drain. DROP TORCH. Move UP, NORTH, DOWN, EAST, UP, SOUTH, EAST and SOUTH to the filling station. ENTER KIOSK. TAKE SCREWDRIVER. Move NORTH to the filling station. CLIMB OVER RUBBLE to the waste ground. TAKE BEAM. Move WEST to Manor Drive: A gang of looters see that you are carrying the television and move away. DROP TELEVISION. Move WEST to Royal Street: The soldiers see that you are not one of the looters and move away. Move SOUTH to Kings Close. OPEN GATES. Move WEST to the overgrown garden. OPEN DOOR. Move WEST to the hallway of the derelict house. EXAMINE STAIRS to see that the central section is unsupported. SUPPORT STAIRS WITH BEAM. Move UP, WEST, NORTH, WEST, SOUTH, WEST and UP to the roof. SLIDE DOWN ROOF to the parapet. JUMP TO ROOF of the nearby building. Move DOWN, SOUTH and EAST to Castle Road. DROP SCREWDRIVER. If you didn't drop the bottle and the torch earlier on, drop them now as well. Check that you have nothing in the inventory by entering INVENTORY. TAKE BUNS. Move WEST, NORTH and UP to the apartment block roof. JUMP TO PARAPET. CLIMB UP ROOF. Move DOWN, EAST, NORTH, EAST, SOUTH, EAST, DOWN, EAST twice, NORTH and EAST twice to the waste ground. CLIMB OVER RUBBLE to the filling station. Move NORTH, WEST, NORTH, DOWN, WEST, UP, NORTH twice, EAST twice, NORTH, EAST and SOUTH twice to the circus tent. GIVE BUNS TO ELEPHANT and it will move away. TAKE RAMP. Move NORTH twice, WEST, SOUTH, WEST twice, SOUTH twice, DOWN, EAST, UP, SOUTH, EAST and SOUTH to the filling station. CLIMB OVER RUBBLE to the waste ground. Move WEST twice, SOUTH, WEST twice, UP, WEST, NORTH, WEST, SOUTH, WEST and UP to the roof. SLIDE DOWN ROOF to the parapet. JUMP TO ROOF of the nearby building. Move DOWN, SOUTH, EAST and SOUTH to South Way. DROP RAMP BY CHASM. Move NORTH to Castle Road. TAKE SCREWDRIVER. Move SOUTH to South Way. EXAMINE BODY to find a key. TAKE KEY. REMOVE BODY from the car. ENTER CAR. START CAR. DRIVE CAR TO RAMP and it will become wedged in the chasm. Move SOUTH twice and EAST twice to the gatehouse. OPEN GATE. Move SOUTH to the reception area of the power plant. EXAMINE DESK to find a key. TAKE KEY. Move SOUTH, DOWN and EAST to the corridor. UNLOCK DOOR. OPEN DOOR. Move EAST and NORTH to the maintenance area. EXAMINE BODY to find a valve. TAKE VALVE. Move SOUTH and WEST three times to the reactor service corridor. FIT VALVE ON PIPE. FIT WIRES ON VALVE with the screwdriver. Move EAST and UP to the control room. PRESS BUTTON to complete the game. =============================================================================== 3. Item List =============================================================================== BOTTLE Found by examining the bin in the park area of the zoo. It is filled with the oil from the tanker on Darwin Street to get the bottle of oil. BOTTLE OF OIL Found by filling the bottle with the oil from the tanker on Darwin Street. It is used to lubricate the mechanism on the sluicegate in the sewer. BUNS Found on Castle Road. They are given to the elephant in the circus tent. CAP Found in Cook Street underground station. It is not used. CHAIR Found in the office. It is dropped in the lift and is then climbed on so that the panel in the ceiling can be removed. DIAMOND Found on North Street. It is not used. FRUIT Found in Legion Parade. It does not have to be used to complete the game, but can be given to the chimpanzees in the zoo. HANDLE Found in the sewer. It is fitted onto the sluicegate in the sewer. KEY Found by examining the body at South Way. It is used to start the car. KEY Found by examining the desk in the power plant reception area. It is used to unlock the door to the storage yard. MEAT Found in Legion Parade. It does not have to be used to complete the game, but can be given to the lion in the zoo. PANEL Found after dropping the chair in the lift, standing on the chair and then taking the panel. It is not used. PEN Found in the office. It is not used. PICKAXE Found in the utility room. It is not used. RADIO Found in the office. It is not used. RUSTY NAIL Found on the roof of the old building. It is not used. SCREWDRIVER Found in the kiosk. It is used to fit the wires on the valve in the reactor service corridor. STOUT WOODEN BEAM Found in the waste ground. It is used to support the stairs in the derelict house. SWEETS Found in the kiosk. They are not used. TELEVISION Found on Parkhouse Road. It should be in the inventory before entering Manor Drive to avoid the looters. It should then be dropped before moving west from Manor Drive to Royal Street to avoid the guards. TICKET Found in Byron Street underground station. It is not used. TISSUES Found in the washroom. They are not used. TORCH Found by examining the workbench in the utility room. It should be switched on before moving east from the storm drain in the sewer. TRUMPET Found in Cook Street underground station. It is not used. WOODEN RAMP Found in the circus tent after the buns have been given to the elephant. The wooden ramp can only be carried if no other items are in the inventory. It is dropped by the chasm on South Way. WOODEN STICK Found in Clarence Square. It is not used. VALVE Found by examining the body in the maintenance room.
