Yukon Gold (yukon_gold_fast_access.txt)

YUKON GOLD SOLUTION

You are a singularly unsuccessful gold prospector. You have spent all your savings but a few dollars
and found no gold. Now you sit in a seedy bar gazing at the gold watch your father left you.
It's the only thing you have left of any value. A rather smelly old timer asks you for a
whisky. Being kind hearted if not wise, you buy a whisky for him, and he in his turn gives you an
old faded map of what he calls 'GOLD VALLEY'. He tells you that there is much gold there,
but he could never find the place. He wishes you luck and leaves the bar.

You take your watch and the map and leave the bar. You pick up a box of matches dropped by some
drunk and go to a gunsmith where you buy a shot gun. A sign tells you that the gunsmith buys gold,
but another sign says that sales are cash only. You visit a general store which also is a branch of
the Yukon Bank. They also buy gold but only deal in cash sales. You buy an axe and a hurricane lamp
with a cracked glass. Now you visit a stable. Here you may either trade, offer or barter your watch
for a mule, or try to buy a mule and then trade, barter or offer your watch. The stable owner takes
your watch and tells you to ride the mule. If you have not read the map before this you will get a
prompt telling you to READ MAP before you ride the mule.

RIDE MULE takes you miles away north in wild country. The mule treads on a wild bees nest and throws
you off. It gallops off homewards pursued by angry bees. You take the honeycomb and continue on foot
until you come to a river which from the map you see you must cross. You CHOP or FELL a tree which
is by the river bank. The tree falls across the river making a bridge which you cross. You then
climb up a mountain. You hear wolves howling. You come to a rope bridge across a valley. The map
tells you this leads to Gold Valley, but it looks unsafe. There is some rope here which you should
take. The bridge is NOT SAFE! You continue up the mountain, but the wolves catch you up. To avoid
them you go west into a cave. In order to see in the cave you light the lamp, and you then see a
grizzly bear. You GIVE or OFFER the HONEY to the grizzly bear who takes it and leaves you alone. You
continue west into the cave, then down until you reach a maze of passages. If you solve this you
come to a cave with a round boulder.

You PUSH the BOULDER to reveal a hidden exit to this cave. Now you find a well like shaft with a
ladder in it. You descend the ladder, but find it suddenly ends having rusted away. You TIE the ROPE
to the last rung and go down the rope until you reach the end of the rope. You now JUMP or RELEASE
ROPE and hit the bottom of the shaft. The lamp is smashed but light is coming from the east. You go
east and find that you are in an enclosed basin with a very swift flowing river which disappears
down a tunnel. You think you can see light down the tunnel so JUMP or SWIM. You are swept through
the tunnel into a lake and struggle ashore on the west bank. This is of course GOLD VALLEY.

There is a natural path by the lake which you follow north until a small path goes west. You follow
this and find a ruined shed. You PUSH or SHAKE the SHED and wooden boards fall off it which you
take. You go east back to the lake, and then north until you reach the end of the lake where a great
waterfall cascades into a lower valley. A line of stepping stones extends across the falls but the
centre stone is missing. Here you must JUMP.

You continue east using the stones then follow the lakeside path south. You see much beaver activity
and a dam they have made. The ground becomes soft and marshy. To get across this marsh you PLACE
BOARDS or USE BOARDS. Once across the marsh you are by a cabin around which is a wall which gleams
with a profusion of gold nuggets. You knock on the cabin door but there's no answer, so you
open the door and go inside. Here you see a dead old hermit, a letter, a carrot and a painting. You
read the letter which tells you to take the nuggets but to bury the hermit first. The letter also
tells you to make a raft for the gold and to leave the valley by the Stairway of the Falls. Lastly
it says,'Watch the beavers.' The painting is of the Stairway, and there's a biblical
text above the bed which says, 'Watch and Pray.' Under it has been written, 'Try it
the other way round.'
You take the dead hermit and bury him, then you pray at the graveside. In the cabin's workshop
you find a pick. You either DIG or REMOVE NUGGETS from the wall and place them in a coveniently
placed sack. You return to the workshop to make a raft, but discover that you will need more boards
to make it. You return to the shed and SHAKE or PUSH SHED again. You take the boards that fall off
and return and MAKE or BUILD RAFT. Next you ROPE SACK to the raft, drag it down to the lake near Zac
the hermit's grave and LAUNCH RAFT or LAUNCH LOADED RAFT. It drifts off towards the falls. You
go north and as you reach the beaver colony you see the raft go over the falls. Now if you are to
make a successful dam you must WATCH BEAVERS.
You go north one location then MAKE or BUILD DAM. The dam cuts off the water to the falls and in
their place appears a flight of rough rock steps.(The Stairway of the Falls.) You go down the
stairway and then east. You hear the dam burst and climb up on a high rock. You WAIT. The flood
comes and subsides. From the top of the rock you see in the distance to the north three horsemen.
You come down from the rock and go north. Now you find the smashed raft, but the sack of nuggets has
gone. You continue and get rather lost then come across three bandits and one has your sack of
nuggets. You FIRE GUN or SHOOT BANDITS. The bandit with the sack falls off his horse and drops the
sack. His horse gallops off and away. The bandit scrambles up behind one of his friends and they
gallop away. You take the sack and continue to be lost. If you run into the bandits again they will
kill you, but you should come across the bandit's horse. You OFFER or GIVE CARROT. Next you
must RIDE HORSE. The journey leads you back to town past the stable where you traded your watch for
the mule. You enter the stable and OFFER, TRADE, or BARTER the HORSE for the return of your watch.
You enter the town on foot and go to the general store where like the gunsmiths they buy gold. Here
you OPEN SACK or SHOW NUGGETS. The storekeeper gives you a huge bundle of money. If you try to do
this at the gunsmiths the result is fatal!
