Galilee:
Game by Peter Goodlad, released by Shards Software 1984 for the ZX Spectrum.
Game doesn't understand INVENTORY but does recognise the single-letter
abreviation so, I, will show that you have 20 denarii and a letter. READ LETTER
gives the text: To Zebedee & Son, please give employment to the bearer of this
letter - Abrahams, Fish Gate.
Go W, LOOK, ENTER BOAT, EXAMINE BOAT, OPEN LOCKER, EXAMINE LOCKER.
GET MAP, GET FOOD, GET NET.
READ MAP at any time will display an outline of the Sea of Galilee and indicate
your position with a flashing plus sign.
HOIST SAIL, UNTIE BOAT.
Repeatedly SAIL NORTH until you reach the northern shore (there will be an image
of houses near the shore). When you do, TIE BOAT and GO TO JETTY - you will now
be on dry land.
Note: If you do come ashore elsewhere refer to the solution map for directions
to Bethsaida market.
W, W, will take you to Bethsaida market. WAIT repeatedly until Zebedee arrives
and takes your letter. ASK ZEBEDEE, and he will tell you he needs fish. Go W to
the harbour, then GO TO JETTY, LOOK, ENTER BOAT, UNTIE BOAT. (I don't know if
this is a bug in the program or if it is deliberate but your boat will be tied
to the jetty of whichever town you are in!).
SAIL SOUTH, CAST NET, GET NET, and hopefully you will have some fish, although
you may need to repeat this sequence a few times if you catch only a few fish or
nothing.
Repeatedly SAIL NORTH until you reach the shore. TIE BOAT, GO TO JETTY, and make
your way back to Bethsaida market. WAIT until Zebedee arrives and then GIVE
FISH. If he leaves, WAIT repeatedly until he tells you whether or not he needs
more fish. If you're lucky they will be enough, but sometimes he will send you
on another trip for more, so you will have to go back the the harbour and repeat
the fishing sequence.
Note: My experience is that on second fishing trips a storm can occur. I don't
think there's much you can do about this except LOWER SAIL and sit it out.
Sadly, it is possible to die during the storm, which means you have to begin
again.
When Zebedee says "Thanks for the fish", ASK ZEBEDEE and he will tell you that
you are wanted in Capernaum
Then, W,W,W,W,W,N, W. ENTER INN, LOOK, EAT, SLEEP, LEAVE.
You will see three men carrying a mattress - they need a fourth person. CARRY
MAN, E, E, N, U, CUT HOLE, LOWER MAN. WAIT (there is silence), WAIT (your sins
are forgiven), WAIT (get up and walk) WAIT (the lame man gets up and leaves).
D, S, W, W,W, and WAIT until scribe arrives. ASK SCRIBE and he will tell you
that you should have made contact earlier. ASK SCRIBE again and he will tell you
that there is a meeting at the synagogue in Magdala.
Go S, then W as far as you can, then S until you come to an Inn. ENTER INN,
LOOK, EAT, SLEEP, LEAVE. Then W, ENTER SYNAGOGUE (a priest bars your way). ASK
PRIEST (he will ask who has sent you), SAY ABRAHAMS (this is the name on the
letter you started with). ENTER SYNAGOGUE and WAIT repeatedly. When you see the
message "Be on your way", LEAVE.
Go U as far as you can, then W as far as you can, then S until you come to a
cornfield. SLEEP, EAT. Then S, S, S, and then go W until you get to the
synagogue. ENTER SYNAGOGUE, LOOK, ASK JESUS, FOLLOW JESUS. FOLLOW JESUS, FOLLOW
JESUS, and finally HOLD HIM. This will display the closing scene and you will
have scored 100%.
