Synopsis

Your friends and you have recently read Jules Verne’s story, “Around the World in Eighty Days”. You claim that nowadays it is possible to go around the world in much less time than Phineas Fogg and Passepartout took in the story because air travel was not available to them a hundred years ago. Your friends laugh at you and bet you a million dollars that if you left London immediately without making any travel arrangements in advance, you would not be able to complete a journey around the world in eighty days.

You accept the bet and set out from London immediately that very day. You intend to travel around the world in roughly an easterly direction.
