Formed as a division of the Mettoy toy company in 1981, Dragon Data Ltd. sold its first computer - the Dragon 32 - in August 1982. By this time Mettoy was already in financial difficulties leading to the company selling all but 15.5% of its stake in Dragon Data in October 1982. Mettoy sold off this remaining stake when it entered receivership in October 1983, this coming a month after GEC took control of running Dragon Data.
Despite the input of GEC and initial high sales Dragon Data itself went into receivership, the assets eventually being sold to Eurohard SA in August 1984.
