Commenting on Jason Dyer's blog, Jenny Schmidt, the author of the Adventure Construction Set wrote:
I wrote it when I was 19 in a college dormitory room. A few years earlier I had become obsessed with Colossal Cave Adventure. It was the first computer program where I didn’t quite understand how it worked. It seemed magical. I credit it with getting me to want to understand computer programming on a deeper level. I suppose I wrote ACS to prove that I did finally understand how text adventures worked. Looking back at it now, the system seems quite primitive, but at the time I was very proud of it.
I originally named the system AWAPS (Adventure Writing And Playing System). Nibble, however, did not care for the title and changed it. Unlike the other works I sold them, Nibble also did a fair amount of editing on this one, adding some nice input routines to get around the 255 character limit.
