EXAMINE CARD (you need your glasses), N, OPEN DOOR, N, EXAMINE JULIE, ASK
JULIE FOR KEY (she gives it to you), S, UNLOCK DRAWER, OPEN DRAWER, LOOK IN
DRAWER, TAKE GLASSES, WEAR GLASSES, READ CARD (Thea Harbou – please call),
TAKE WHISKEY, CALL THEA (She says she wants you to find her husband. She
arrives and hands you a photo, adding that Joseph, husband, disappeared four
years ago. She adds that they have a son. She gives you documents and a
bracelet)
EXAMINE BRACELET, EXAMINE DOCUMENTS (they date back to the 30’s, written in
German), CLOSE DRAWER, INVENTORY (you also have a photo), EXAMINE PHOTO, N,
SHOW PHOTO TO JULIE (she says it is from the movie “The Postman Rings Twice”;
but you cannot recall the studio), W, N, EXAMINE ALLEY, S, S, S, DOWN, W (at
the pawn shop), N, EXAMINE MAN, SHOW BRACELET TO MAN (you get $10.00), SHOW
DOCUMENTS TO MAN (he translates), READ DOCUMENTS (There are several pictures
of Joseph, one next to a woman filmmaker. It seems that Harbou was involved
with Nazi propaganda films), S, E (you see your car), EXAMINE HAROLD, EXAMINE
NEWSSTAND, BUY MAGAZINE, READ MAGAZINE (the “Postman” was made by MGM).
EXAMINE CAR, DRIVE CAR (you arrive at the studio and see a guard in the lot),
GIVE MONEY TO GUARD, N, EXAMINE RECEPTIONIST, TALK TO RECEPTIONIST (you need
to make an appointment with Mr. Peterson), S, E, N, EXAMINE COSTUMES (you see
a suit), TAKE SUIT, EXAMINE SUIT (torn pocket), EXAMINE POCKET (you see dark
glasses and a fake mustache), REMOVE READING GLASSES, WEAR DARK GLASSES, WEAR
MUSTACHE, S, W, N, ASK RECEPTIONIST ABOUT PETERSON (You slip into his office,
and see him with a blonde; she rushes out and he gets dressed. He assumes his
wife hired you. You ask about Joseph Harbou. Peterson tells you the man in
the picture is Samuel Cranston, a director for Independent Studios. He was in
postman and now is married to Sarah Cooper. You leave).
REMOVE MUSTACHE, REMOVE DARK GLASSES, E, N (you replace the objects you
borrowed), S, W, DRIVE CAR (to Independent Studios and see a guard), EXAMINE
GUARD, GIVE WHISKEY TO GUARD, N (You get an appointment with Frank Haswell,
the head. You see Sarah Cooper. You ask Haswell about Cranston. As he
prepares to escort you out, you show him the documents and photos. He offers
you money. You turn him down and leave.), S, DRIVE CAR, EXAMINE GAS STATION,
HONK HORN (You buy gas and drive to Sammy’s bar; get drunk, wake up in the
car, and go home. After a few days, you see a newspaper). WEAR READING
GLASSES, BUY NEWSPAPER (You read about Cranston’s trailer catching fire, but
no body was found. You call your policeman friend, Larry, and tell him about
the case. You follow the police to a house).
Go W, EXAMINE GATE, OPEN GATE, OPEN WINDOW (it creaks), W (you see a duffel
bag at the tennis court), TAKE BAG (you get a flashlight), N, OPEN SHED DOOR
(you get some oil and wonder whether Haswell murdered Cranston), S, E, OIL
WINDOW, OPEN WINDOW (you are in the living room), EXAMINE CASE (one of the
knives is missing), W, EXAMINE DESK, EXAMINE BOX (locked), OPEN DRAWER, LOOK
IN DRAWER, TAKE PILLS, EXAMINE PILLS (sleeping pills), E, NW (door is
jammed), N, TAKE CHICKEN, EXAMINE CHICKEN, E (you see people on a couch and a
dog), EXAMINE COUCH (Sarah and Haswell have been killed), EXAMINE SARAH (the
dog won’t let you get any closer), PUT PILLS IN CHICKEN, GIVE CHICKEN TO DOG
(he goes to sleep).
EXAMINE HASWELL (you find and take a key), W, S, W, UNLOCK METAL BOX, (there
are bullets inside which you take), LOAD GUN, E, N, E, E, E (you see an empty
pool and bushes), EXAMINE BUSHES (Cranston jumps out and slashes at you with
the knife. You shoot him in the left leg. He knocks the gun away and pushes
you into the pool, stepping on your left hand. You are hanging on for dear
life.) EXAMINE CRANSTON, GRAB LEG (which one), GRAB LEFT LEG (Cranston falls
in the pool and crushes his skull. The police and Larry arrive. It seems that
Haswell did attempt to burn Cranston alive. Thea receives his full estate and
savings)
