MASQUERADE

Scenario
You're after the crime boss Mr. Topp, but so far you've had little luck. Your only lead
is an unconscious stooge in a cheap hotel. Fortunately he has a few things on him that gives your
investigation a boost. You'll be led in short order to the local zoo where you'll meet up
with a useful snake, a bird that can be very friendly, a gorilla that just can't, a pack rat
and a couple of zoo employees.
Notes
1. If the rock is simply thrown it will sail out of sight, except at the gorilla's cage where
it rolls under the gorilla's body and is lost forever. Other ways of killing the gorilla
include THROW FLOWER and DROP BIRD, but both result in unsolvable game situations.
2. The gorilla cage door can also be opened by PUSHING BUTTON, but this will result in a no-win
situation. Never open the door before you've dealt with the gorilla.
3. Wearing the mask avoids the suspicious figure and his randomly thrown, but always accurate,
knife.
Walk Through
(Start in a cheap hotel room), EXAMINE BODY (it's Ivan Tupickernoff, the notorious hit man - he
appears to be out cold), SEARCH BODY, GET WALLET, OPEN WALLET (you find a dollar and a business
card), GET DOLLAR, GET CARD, EXAMINE CARD (... professional assassin...), DROP WALLET, SEARCH BODY
(find a telegram), READ TELEGRAM ("Zilch out... Zorch in... Stop - Squeal bomb set 6.15..
Stop"), MOVE BODY (there is a small key underneath), GET KEY, OPEN BRIEFCASE (find a mask and a
box), GET MASK, EXAMINE MASK (it is a rubber mask that looks like your average citizen), GET BOX,
EXAMINE BOX (shiny metal with a button on the side), DROP KEY, S (hotel lobby), S (waiting room),
WAIT (time passes very quickly in the waiting room), READ WATCH (around 6.03 leave and head for the
telephone booth).
N, E (telephone booth where you see a ticking bomb), EXAMINE PHONE (an ordinary pay-phone), WAIT
(until the telephone rings), ANSWER TELEPHONE (you are asked what you want), SAY ZORCH (you are told
to "Find the popcorn vendor and say.......... - note this random code), WAIT (until the bomb is
squealing), PUSH BUTTON (the box emits a very loud squeal and the floor drops beneath you - you hear
a loud explosion and find yourself in the basement corridors), E, E, N, GET BRA, S, W, S, GET OLD
BOOK, READ BOOK (it reads "LE WIS CAR ROLL," there's even a braille translation), W,
S, S, W, EXAMINE BLOCK (it's a gigantic block of balsa wood), MOVE BLOCK (there was something
under it), DROP BRA, GET CORKSCREW, U (it's too slick to get a handhold), USE CORKSCREW (you
stick it in the block), GET BRA, U (pile of rubble that used to be the hotel).
W, S, S, DROP WATCH, DROP CARD (business), S, E (zoo gate where a burly guard wants one dollar to
enter), GIVE DOLLAR, E (inside zoo gate), S (zoo midway where you see the popcorn vendor),
SAY............. (the code number given earlier on the telephone - the vendor says to be sure to
wear this flower at all times and drops something), GET FLOWER, WEAR FLOWER, READ NOTE (beware of
the squealer... if you're really sharp, you'll take a short cut around the block"), W
(northwest midway where you see a blind beggar), GIVE BOOK (he takes the book, says thanks and drops
something before quickly leaving), GET DOLLAR, E, BUY POPCORN (the vendor takes your dollar and
walks off chuckling to himself), GET POPCORN (do not eat it or you will choke), SEARCH POPCORN, GET
BADGE, EXAMINE BADGE (it's a metallic badge that reads "Zoo Security"), WEAR BADGE,
DROP POPCORN.
W, S (southwest midway where you see a small office building), ENTER OFFICE (need to be wearing the
badge - you are inside a security office), PULL SWITCH, E, N, E, N (to where the fence is), N (must
have pulled the switch first - to a weed field), SEARCH WEEDS, GET GLOVE, DROP BOX, S, S, E, S, W
(reptile house), WEAR GLOVE (otherwise the snake will bite you), GET ROCK (you find a ticket), GET
TICKET (leave the snake for now), EXAMINE TICKET (it's a theatre ticket), E, N, W, N (inside
zoo gate), DROP BRA, DROP ROCK, DROP GLOVE, DROP GUN, W, W, N (outside movie theatre), GET CARD, W
(lobby - must be wearing the flower and have the ticket), GET HELMET, EXAMINE HELMET (a safari
helmet), S (washroom), GET RAZOR, REMOVE MASK, SHAVE, WEAR MASK, N, N (outside Topp's door),
INSERT CARD (in the slit and the door swings open, but don't enter yet), DROP CARD, S, E, S, E
(the burly guard says you can enter because you are wearing the badge), E, N, E (construction zone),
WEAR HELMET, N, GET HAMMER, GET DYNAMITE, S, W (weed field), USE HAMMER (you smash open the grate),

theatre).

shot you got the gorilla who is now dead), PICK LOCK (using the toothpick), W, N, DROP TOOTHPICK,
