1. Introduction
===============================================================================
Published in 1983, Adventure E: The Golden Apple is the fifth in a series of
eight interactive fiction adventures made by Artic Computing. The aim in this
game is to find thirteen treasures and store them in the mansion study. The
final treasure to find is the golden apple, which can only be collected after
all twelve of the other treasures have been found.

2. Walkthrough
===============================================================================
The game starts on the road near a mansion. Move NORTH and EAST to the flower
garden. SMELL FLOWERS to pull out a small key and a handkerchief. GET KEY. GET
HANDKERCHIEF. Move NORTH and EAST to the greenhouse. GET CAN. GET SEEDS. Move
WEST, SOUTH and WEST twice to the gate house. PULL LEVER. GET MATCHES. Move
EAST, SOUTH, EAST twice and NORTH to the wood near the clear stream.
FILL CAN from the stream. Move EAST to the wood near the tree. CLIMB TREE. GET
AXE. Move DOWN and SOUTH to the wood near the log. CHOP LOG with the axe. LOOK
to see a silver bar and planks. DROP AXE. GET BAR. GET PLANKS. Move WEST three
times, NORTH, EAST and NORTH to the vegetable plot. PLANT SEEDS. WATER SEEDS
with the can. LOOK to see carrots. GET CARROTS. Move SOUTH, WEST and NORTH to
the front porch. UNLOCK DOOR with the small key. GO DOOR to enter the hallway.
Move NORTH to the living room. EXAMINE PAINTING to see a woman weairng a
brooch. GET BROOCH. Move EAST to the dining room. CLIMB TABLE. GET LAMP. Move
DOWN, WEST, SOUTH and EAST to the study. DROP BROOCH. DROP BAR. Move WEST to
the hallway. CLIMB STAIRS. Move WEST to the bedroom. MOVE BED. LOOK to see a
metal whistle. GET WHISTLE. BLOW WHISTLE to travel to the hill top.
Move WEST, SOUTH twice and EAST twice to the harbour. GO SHIP to board the
ship. GET NET. Move DOWN, WEST twice, NORTH twice, EAST and NORTH to north of
hill. Turn ON LAMP. GO CAVE. Move NORTH to the spooky room. Turn OFF LAMP and
the shadow will disappear. GO HOLE. Turn ON LAMP. DROP MATCHES. GET ROPE. GET
SHOVEL. Move UP, SOUTH and EAST to the large cavern. CLIMB STALACTITE to the
high alcove. GET STONE. Move DOWN and EAST to the round cave. THROW STONE into
the pool and it will dissolve into a diamond. PULL PLUG to drain the pool. GET
DIAMOND. Move WEST twice and SOUTH three times to south of hill.
DROP LAMP. REPAIR BRIDGE with planks and rope. CROSS BRIDGE to the cliff
top. GET SCULPTURE. Move NORTH twice and EAST to east of hill. CATCH FISH with
the net. LOOK to see a salmon. GET SALMON. Move WEST twice and NORTH to the
wooded glade. GIVE SALMON to the beggar to get a gold coin. Move SOUTH and EAST
twice to east of hill. CATCH FISH with the net. LOOK to see a salmon. DROP NET.
GET SALMON. Move WEST to the hill top. BLOW WHISTLE to return to the bedroom.
EXAMINE DUST. LOOK to see a bearskin rug. GET RUG. Move EAST, DOWN and EAST to
the study. DROP DIAMOND. DROP COIN. DROP SCULPTURE. DROP RUG. Move WEST to the
hallway. CLIMB STAIRS to the landing. Move WEST to the bedroom. COVER MOUTH
with the handkerchief. SLEEP until dawn. This gives another 300 moves before it
becomes night again. DROP HANDKERCHIEF. BLOW WHISTLE to return to the hilltop.
DROP WHISTLE. Move WEST, SOUTH twice and EAST twice to the harbour. GO SHIP to
board the ship. SAIL SHIP to land on the strange beach.
GO WRECK to enter the wreck. GET KNIFE. Move EAST twice to the rock face. FEED
CROCODILE the salmon and it will become friendly. GO CRACK to enter the metal
corridor. Move EAST to the red room. SING and the glass case will disintegrate.
GET EMERALDS. Move WEST and NORTH to the green room. EXAMINE GUARD and he will
say that he can't see very well. GIVE CARROT to the guard. GO PASSAGE to enter
the light green room. GET SPHERE. Move WEST and SOUTH twice to the blue room.
SLIDE PANEL to reveal an opening. GO OPENING to the steep slope. ROLL SPHERE
down the slope and it will smash. Move EAST to the dead end. GET RING. GET
GLASS. Move WEST and NORTH three times to the green room. GO PASSAGE to enter
the light green room. Move EAST and SOUTH twice to the black room. GET BOX.
UNLOCK BOX with the small key. LOOK to see a silk glove. DROP KEY. DROP BOX.
GET GLOVE. Move NORTH to the soft corridor. DIG with the shovel. LOOK to see a
pit. DROP SHOVEL. GO PIT to climb to the bottom of the pit.
Move WEST to the edge of a drop. THROW KNIFE at the flip switch and a hover
taxi will appear. GO TAXI to travel to the other side of the drop. Move WEST to
the low room. CRAWL under the cloud of gas. GO HALL to enter the strange hall.
GET RUBY. Move EAST twice to the edge of the drop. GO TAXI to travel to the
other side of the drop. Move EAST, SOUTH twice, EAST and NORTH to the small
recess. GET TIN of silver spray paint. Move SOUTH to the airlock.
HOLD BREATH. PUSH BUTTON and water will fill the room. GO HATCH to the seabed.
GET SAPPHIRE. Move NORTH to the airlock. PUSH BUTTON and the water will recede.
GO EXIT to the room level with the seabed. Move WEST twice to the computer
room. TYPE 2B on the computer. LOOK to see some jewelry. GET JEWELRY. Move
NORTH to the tiny room. GO LIGHT to return to the road near the mansion.
Move NORTH twice to the front porch. GO DOOR to enter the hallway. Move EAST to
the study. DROP RUBY. DROP JEWELRY. DROP RING. DROP SAPPHIRE. DROP EMERALDS.
DROP GLOVE. SCORE and the safe will open. GO SAFE to enter the safe. READ
NOTICE: Hold it and enter. SPRAY GLASS with the silver paint to make a mirror.
HOLD MIRROR. GO CHAMBER to see that the mirror turned Medusa into stone. GET
APPLE. Move WEST twice to the study. DROP APPLE. SCORE to complete the game.

3. Item List
===============================================================================
BOX
Found in the black room. It is unlocked with the small key to reveal the silk
glove.
BOX OF MATCHES
Found in the gate house. It is used to switch the gas lamp on.
BROKEN GLASS
Found in the dead end after the green sphere has been rolled down the steep
slope. The tin of silver spray paint is sprayed on the broken glass to make
the small mirror.
CARROTS
Found after the seeds have been planted in the vegetable plot and watered
with the full watering can. It is given to the guard in the green room to
reveal the passage to the light green room.
EMPTY WATERING CAN
Found in the greenhouse. It is filled from the stream in the wood.
FULL WATERING CAN
Found by filling the empty watering can from the stream in the wood. After
the seeds have been planted in the vegetable plot, the full watering can is
used on the seeds to make the carrots grow.
GAS LAMP
Found on top of the table in the dining room. It is turned on to explore the
cave, turned off to make the shadow disappear in the spooky room and then
turned on again after entering the hole.
GREEN SPHERE
Found in the light green room. It is rolled down the steep slope to reveal
the platinum ring and the broken glass in the dead end.
KNIFE
Found in the wreck. It is thrown at the flip switch on the edge of the drop
to make the hover taxi appear.
LARGE NET
Found on the ship in the harbour. It is used to catch the fish from the deep
lake in the area east of the hill.
LONG ROPE
Found in the hole in the cave. The long rope and the planks are used to
repair the bridge in the area south of the hill.
METAL WHISTLE
Found by moving the bed in the bedroom. It is blown to travel to the hill
top.
PLANKS
Found after using the axe to chop the heavy log in the wood. The planks and
the long rope are used to repair the bridge in the area south of the hill.
ROUND STONE
Found in the high alcove in the cave. It is thrown into the pool of liquid in
the round cave to reveal the diamond.
SALMON
Found by using the large net to catch the fish from the deep lake in the area
east of the hill. It is given to the beggar in the wooded glade. Another fish
is then caught from the deep lake. The second salmon is given to the mean
crocodile at the rock face to make him friendly.
SEEDS
Found in the greenhouse. They are planted in the vegetable plot and watered
with the full watering can to make the carrots grow.
SHARP AXE
Found at the top of the small tree in the wood. It is used to chop the heavy
log in the wood.
SMALL KEY
Found by smelling the flowers in the flower garden. It is used to unlock the
door on the front porch. It is used to unlock the box from the black room to
reveal the silk box.
SMALL MIRROR
Made by spraying the tin of silver spray paint on the broken glass. It is
held inside the safe to turn Medusa into stone.
STRONG SHOVEL
Found in the hole in the cave. It is used to dig in the soft corridor to
reveal the pit.
TIN OF SILVER SPRAY PAINT
Found in the small recess. It is sprayed on the broken glass to make the
small mirror.
WHITE HANDKERCHIEF
Found by smelling the flowers in the flower garden. It is used to cover your
mouth before sleeping in the bedroom. Doing this gives another 300 moves that
can be used before it gets dark.

4. Treasures
===============================================================================
All treasures should be dropped in the study. Enter SCORE in the study after
twelve treasures have been found to open the safe. Enter SCORE in the study
after all thirteen treasures have been found to complete the game.
BEARSKIN RUG
Found by examining the dust in the bedroom.
DIAMOND
After the round stone has been thrown into the pool of liquid in the round
cave, the plug is pulled to drain the pool so that the diamond can be taken.
GOLD COIN
Found by giving the salmon to the beggar in the wooded glade.
GOLDEN APPLE
Found in the dim chamber after Medusa has been turned into stone.
JEWELRY
Found in the computer room after typing 2B on the computer.
LARGE RUBY
Found in the strange hall.
ONYX SCULPTURE
Found on the cliff top.
PLATINUM RING
Found in the dead end after the green sphere has been rolled down the steep
slope.
POT OF EMERALDS
Found by singing in the red room to make the glass case disintegrate.
SAPPHIRE
Found on the seabed.
SILK GLOVE
Found by using the small key to unlock the box from the black room.
SILVER BAR
Found after using the axe to chop the heavy log in the wood.

Found by examining the painting in the living room.
