Synopsis

Recently your wife died in a plane crash. Now you've arrived in the village of Polearn in Cornwall, to recuperate. But it would seem that ghosts are about...

Notes

This was originally listed as published in 1988 using the Quill, in line with the entry on WOS. However, this is a Spectrum 128K game so it can't have been Quilled. The Crash review says it was PAWed & the loading screen bears the date 1989.

The version on spectrumcomputing.co.uk crashes with some screen dumps after the first few moves. At 127k it is really pushing the memory envelope. There may be other versions floating around the internet which are more stable.

If it's using most of the memory of the PAW then it's unlikely to work with certain Spectrum 128K models (there wasn't as much free memory for PAW on the +3 for example). So it may depend on the accuracy of the emulator you're using and/or the model of Spectrum you've got loaded.

I suspected something along those lines. Or, as I was following a young woman at the time, maybe the cyber police were to blame. Get the kicking boots on Sarge.

I’m pretty sure that I completed this several years ago using the old X128 emulator without any problems.

Yeah, emulating the bog-standard 128K will be the best bet. The later Amstrad models may cause issues. In PAW you lost 4K of page 6 and all of page 7 of the memory on the +3 for example, for the disc code and ram disc, so although Polearn will load, it won't work correctly. (Or work on the later tape based "black" +2A/B)
