You went to watch a circus, and after the show you overheard a conversation about the owners daughter being kidnapped. As you are made of heroic stock, you decided to stay with the circus until you find out who did it...
I try to get excited about ballyhoo and fail every time. Not only did the circus setting seem uninspired but it just doesn't seem right: Noone murdered or kidnapped, no ever-helpful sergeant, not even much background story.
I find Ballyhoo better than it's usually given credit for. It has a nice balance, fine writing with subtle undertones, and the atmosphere is convincing enough to me. The game seems to be relatively unpopular when compared to other Infocom productions, but it stands well on its own.
As far as I know, Infocom's only mystery game which doesn't include a 'real time' component.
I don't know, this just always felt pretty unengaging to me. Apart from handful of nice puzzles, the circus setting just seemed uninspired.
