TextFire was an elaborate 1998 April Fool's hoax in the form of an imaginary corporation that released 18 game demos (in three separate uploads) to ftp.gmd.de/if-archive: 12pack.zip, george.zip, and masta.gam. The project was masterminded by Cody Sandifer and involved the authors Matthew Amster-Burton, Neil Brown, Adam Cadre, Nate Cull, Neil deMause, David Dyte, David Glasser, Stephen Granade, Chris Klimas, Leon Lin, Magnus Olsson, Dan Shiovitz, and Scott Starkey; all writing under pseudonyms.
