I recently found Penguin Software's homepage through CASA and discovered a lot of great text adventures with graphics, made with their system "Comprehend". It was a surprise to see such well coded and fun games, I've never heard of before. This is my favourite so far. The graphics are sort of important. Everything important is given in the location descriptions but the graphics may indicate objects position etc which may give a hint on what or when to do something. The graphics are not impressive but useful and adds to the atmosphere. Besides being well coded, it has some excellent puzzles in addition to some more standard puzzles.
Not quite Infocom / Magnetic Scrolls parser quality, but still a pretty good parser with lots of synonyms and fun but "unimportant" responses to things the player might try.
Decent writing, useful atmospheric graphics and the ability to create tension when something is going on and you have to hurry.
You can get far into the game and get stuck because you didn't get and object early on, but you will usually have a good idea of which puzzles you skipped, before you passed a point with no return.
Puzzles range from good to excellent without being too hard. All puzzles were fair.
I am glad I took a look at Penguin Software's games. This game is excellent and my favourite of Penguin Software so far.
