Synopsis

Plot

The adventure is set in a make-believe world, where the players are set the challenge of trying to get rid of the dragon. This can be done in either of two ways: by killing it with the enchanted sword, or by releasing the dragon from the bewitchment that has been put on it (by playing the magic pipe). The players must then discover the dragon's hidden treasure hoard to complete the game.

Players must find either the sword or the flute, and discover the way to safely enter the dragon's tunnels and neutralise the dragon. To do this they must solve a series of simple problems involving gathering and using the objects that can be found in the various game locations. There are clues to this scattered throughout the game.

Notes

Like William Stott's other games, which were developed when he was working as a teacher, he created various iterations for the different computer systems that were popular at various times in UK primary schools. They were available for download on the websites of schools he worked at such as and Deanesfield Primary School and later Shellingford Primary School.

Originally written for the BBC Micro and ported to the Commodore PET. The game was later ported to the Archimedes in 1990 and Inform in 2003.

There was a version of the game for RiscPC running RiscOS 3 upwards which included pictures and sound.

Two Inform versions were produced; a text-only version of the game was produced for the Frotz interpreter; and an enhanced version for Glulxe which included an on-screen map, pictures and sampled sounds.

The BBC Micro version is currently missing from the archive.
