A classic adventure which you move through caves, fight with trolls, collect treasure and finally make your way to the Sphinx to collect your reward. But the Sphinx is not that easy to find, and along the way there are all the pitfalls - some predictable, and others not - typical of the adventure game.
In a talk for Abug, Paul briefly shared his experiences of writing the game during his chemistry degree. After discovering the mainframe game Colossal Cave on the Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory server in Cambridge, he decided to have a go at writing his own game. The resultant Sphinx Adventure earned him £300 for the BBC version and £900 for the Electron.
Pieces of the Sphinx Adventure code, such as the parser routines, ended up being used in some of Paul's later non-adventure programs; such as S-Pascal, a Pascal compiler for the BBC Micro.
