Synopsis

Plot

THE classic mystery game where you solve an apparent suicide by interrogating, or just watching, suspects within a limited time frame. Unusual for an adventure game, this one has several different endings depending on how well you did at solving the crime.

Notes

As well as all the official, original release platforms, the game has been ported to many other systems that support z-machine.

The game was ported to emulated VZ200 in 2022 by R. Banks & S. Marks; see here.

Probably my favourite game ever.

I agree. Very great, well-written and awesome.

The first really successful take on an interactive detective fiction experience. Brilliant in its compact design, it offers enough immersion and NPC interaction for the player to really enjoy the story, with a number of blind alleys and false clues. It is no doubt a difficult game: without any hints, it takes many playthroughs to unravel the correct timings and sequence of "be at such place at this time" actions and solve the crime (including proving it was a crime, which isn't obvious). An amazing game for the limited means available at the time.
