Synopsis

Plot

As a constable of Scotland Yard you have been assigned to patrol the Whitechapel section of London to seek out one Jack the Ripper and put an end to his murderous crimes.

Notes

This was adventure #4 in the SoftSide Adventure of the Month Club subscription service. It was released in September 1981 and first advertised in SoftSide magazine, issue 21, vol. 4, no. 12, September 1981, p. 64.

This is called 'Jack the Ripper Adventure' in most of the instructions and the game itself and 'Jack the Ripper' in the title screen of the instructions and the original advertisement. The latter were written by SoftSide staff, not the original author, so the former is considered to be the correct title.

This is loosely based on the Jack the Ripper murders that took place in and around the Whitechapel district of London during 1888.

This police work does not involve questioning any suspects; it's mostly a matter of solving some puzzles to undermine Jack's murderous efforts, and put on an appropriate undercover disguise to catch the villain. The game makes no attempt to answer the historical question of whom, exactly, Jack the Ripper was.

The game received a semi-sequel with Jack the Ripper II.
